Claudia Schaefer

Claudia Schaefer has lived in Berlin since the 1980s. She worked as a psychologist and a child and youth therapist, and later studied screenwriting at the dffb.She took part in the Torino Film Lab, the Academy for Children's Media, and the Berlinale Talent Campus, and has made short and medium-length films, many of them with young people from Neukölln.Her life is characterized by political activism, and her first two feature films were based on true stories from this environment: NAOMIS REISE (2017) and WEIL ICH SCHÖNER BIN (2012), with which she won several awards.Her third film, based on the novel ELLBOGEN by Fatma Aydemir, premiered at the Berlinale in 2024 and won the Frankfurt Book Fair Award for Best Adaptation of a Novel, among others. STAATSSCHUTZ, again her own story, will be realized in spring 2025 by Faraz Shariat and Jünglinge Film.She is currently working with Aslı Özarslan on a TV series and the feature film KASCHIERT, funded by the BKM and produced by Komplizenfilm.
